Get going, girl.

Friends, I have trouble with this one. Why, when I'm strong and healthy and have many aspirations, do I struggle to be motivated? I know a few others that battle this dilemma as well. Obviously, different methods help different people. Here I'll post a list of options that may or may not be beneficial. For me, it sometimes is hugely helpful to simply see in plain written English what I can do to be a better human.

  • Deadlines help. Because when a task must. be. done. by thus time... well, there doesn't seem to be a choice. You might even try making mundane chores such as laundry as serious a matter in your brain as getting to a coffee date on time, because you don't want to let anyone down. Don't let yourself down, child! You owe it to you (and your husband and family) to be intentional about getting the things accomplished.

  • Lists can be astonishingly motivating, depending on your personality. If that seems overwhelming to you to see an endless list of chores and projects needing to be done, try making a condensed version. Pick three things that are especially important to you, no matter how petty, and get them over with. It's psychologically proven to be a chemical boost to the brain to cross things off a list, so at the end of your three accomplishments, you just may feel so invigorated by those delightful ✔'s that you'll want to make another list of three. Not saying it would work that way for everyone.

  • Schedule. Of any method of get'r'done-ness, this one probably suits my personality the best. I've made so many schedules in my life, that I follow rigidly for a short time and soon fall out. I belive the biggest reason being lack of self-discipline.

  • This one should likely have been first on the list: Start with Jesus. Here again, self-discipline comes into play. I know the days I spend a serene spell with my Lord, I am more able to cheerfully go about the remainder of my day because I've given it all to Him. Keeping in mind the fact that the day is God's to begin with; He gave it to me as a precious gift; I am responsible to make good of it for His glory.

Now that I finished that little sermon to myself, I'm going to pray a prayer for grace and wisdom, make a schedule for my week, and get going.

Love, Sara
