It's the day of the year when the sun longest shines in the northern hemisphere.
It's officially summer.
We've felt it coming. The days have been delightfully warm, and seeds sown in the spring have (hopefully) swollen to lush proportions.
Maybe the fullness of the season ahead overwhelms you. Family reunions, weddings, picnics, camping, yard work, canning and freezing garden bounty, stifling heat. It's a lot!
Remember, you're basically a plant. With enough sunlight and moisture and nutrients summer is the most vibrant time of growth. Fruits grow sweet and juicy and beg to be partaken of.
Let yourself expand, ripen, and sweeten into the season. Offer yourself to the activities that abound. Root yourself in the things that nourish your soul and rejuvenate your body.
There's no need to rush... a raspberry never hurried to ripen, nor a head of wheat to grow full and golden. The harvest is sure to happen when the time is right.
Let the floors accumulate dust and crumbs while you accumulate playful moments on the grass with a wiggly puppy. Eat tinned sardines and crackers for supper because you didn't come in from the flower garden soon enough to cook. Sit by the fire til the big dipper has swung into view. Put off grocery shopping because you spent the day hanging laundry in the sun. Load up for a spontaneous trip to the river for a refreshing swim. Try a new cold drink recipe.
Your reaction to stressful circumstances and unforeseen difficulties will be the mirror in which you can see if you've allowed this season to grow you, change you, beautify you.
Let it be full, and be filled.
P.S. soliloquy means the act of talking to oneself.
