"What does the beauty of nature reveal to you about God?" (prompt from a nature journal)
It happens every time. I'm in a beautiful spot, the grandeur of nature around me, and I'm struck with the awesomeness of God. His works reveal to us so much about Himself.
power.
What else could carve out canyons and caves, erect towering granite peaks, or control the rise and fall of the tide?
consistency.
Since the beginning, Orion's belt has gleamed with the same trio of stars, the seasons come and go without fail, the same water that gushed from the stone that Moses struck in the wilderness is supplying us today.
creativity.
A fuzzy caterpillar, a striped zebra, a spiky anemone clinging to brilliant coral--long necks, threatening horns, webbed feet--the millions of varieties of flora, fauna, and fungi--and then there's you, and me.
mystery.
Why did God decide to hide gorgeous precious gemstones of every color, sparkling crystals and diamond, and lodes of gold deep within mountains and caves? I wonder if there might be something we could learn from that...
delight.
It's easy to forget that our God is one who delights in His creation. We wonder how He can after all we've done to damage it? But surely He yet thrills at the sight of a suckling fawn, a laden cherry tree, a happy home. All doing as He wills it so.
hope.
A dazzling sunset gives the promise of a bright tomorrow. The delicate flowers in the low valley remind us that beauty isn't only on mountaintops. Twinkling stars lend us glimpses into that bright Home beyond.
love.
How can nature reveal God's love? He chose my time, and guided my footsteps to this very place--where I'm inhaling the fragrance of the fir forest, or plunging my body into the cold mountain stream, marveling at the majesty in a tiny perfect snowflake, or laughing at the antics of my flock of hens. Is that because of His love? I choose to believe it is.
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. [Romans 8:38-39]
